Faridabad’s air quality has improved after rain and strong winds brought the district’s air quality index (AQI) below 100 for four consecutive days, while Ballabhgarh recorded an AQI of 90 on Monday, according to data cited by Live Hindustan – NCR. The improvement followed a period in which pollution had been rising across the district.
Faridabad recorded an AQI of 95 on Monday, compared with 98 on September 27, 93 on September 26, 94 on September 25 and 105 on September 24. Ballabhgarh’s AQI was 90 on Monday, after remaining below 80 for much of the preceding period. The readings indicate that Ballabhgarh’s air was cleaner than Faridabad’s during the period covered by the report.
The change has been linked to rainfall and stronger winds from September 24 onwards. Rain on September 26 and 27 helped settle dust particles present in the atmosphere. Moisture on roads also reduced the likelihood of accumulated dust and soil being lifted into the air by moving vehicles.
Strong winds contributed to the dispersal of pollutants, improving air quality across the district. On September 27, Ballabhgarh recorded an AQI of 52 despite sunshine during the day. The report attributed the improvement to continued wind movement, which helped disperse pollutant particles. The reading rose to 90 on Monday but remained in the satisfactory category.
The latest improvement follows a sharp deterioration earlier in the month. After the rainy period ended and soil moisture began to dry, Faridabad’s AQI reached 183 on September 21. A light layer of dust was visible in the atmosphere during the morning and evening, according to the report. Incidents of garbage burning were also reported at several locations in the city, adding to the pollution burden and leaving some residents with breathing difficulties.
The district’s AQI began to decline after weather conditions changed on September 24. The combination of rainfall, surface moisture and wind reduced the amount of dust circulating through the urban environment. The readings also show how quickly local air quality can change when weather conditions alter the movement and suspension of pollutants.
Monday remained pleasant across the district, with cloudy skies and strong winds through the day. Cooler air reduced the need for fans during the morning, while residents also experienced relief from the heat. The weather department had forecast the possibility of rain, but strong winds moved the clouds onward and no rainfall occurred during the day.
The report said skies were likely to clear on Tuesday, with sunshine potentially bringing a rise in temperature. Light coolness was expected to continue during the morning and evening. The AQI readings will therefore remain important for assessing whether the recent improvement continues after the weather changes.
