Vasai Electricity Drive Gets 421 New Connection Applications

A Mahavitaran service campaign in Vasai received applications for 421 new domestic electricity connections in one week, while temporary information centres also processed requests related to rooftop solar, name changes and other consumer services, according to officials.

The applications were received under the Seva Sankalp and Seva Setu campaigns across areas under the Vasai division office. Manik Rathod, superintendent engineer, provided the information. Mahavitaran officials said the campaign is also being used to address a range of existing consumer complaints.

Temporary information centres have been established at multiple locations under the Vasai division to provide information on government schemes and electricity-related services. These include the Maagel Tyala Saur Krushi Pump scheme, the Smart scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Muft Surya Ghar Yojana, as well as procedures for changing a consumer’s name and applying for a new electricity connection.

The centres are accepting applications along with providing information. The arrangement is intended to reduce the time and effort required for consumers to visit electricity offices or seek information separately. The campaign therefore combines two administrative functions: helping residents understand available schemes and providing a point at which applications can be submitted.

In addition to the 421 applications for new domestic connections, officials said 44 applications were received for the Pradhan Mantri Muft Surya Ghar Yojana during the week. Another 25 applications concerned changes to consumer names. These figures relate to applications received during the campaign and do not represent approvals or completed installations.

The campaign’s immediate significance for Vasai’s expanding urban settlements lies in the demand being recorded at the service points. A new electricity connection is a basic utility requirement for households, while name-change requests are typically linked to changes in occupancy, ownership or the regularisation of consumer records. The supplied report does not specify the locations of the 421 applicants, their eligibility status or the number of applications that will ultimately be approved.

Officials said the applications would first be verified before a decision is taken. This verification process applies to the new connection requests, the solar-scheme applications and the name-change applications. The report does not provide a timeline for completing the checks or details of any additional documents required from applicants.

The temporary centres are also giving residents information about central and state government schemes. By bringing information and application intake together, Mahavitaran is attempting to make access to electricity services more direct at the local level. The next step for applicants is the completion of verification by the utility before applications move towards approval or further processing.
