Vasai-Virar Dengue Prevention Drive Expands Across City

The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has launched a preventive campaign against dengue, malaria, chikungunya and other mosquito-borne diseases, combining mosquito-control measures with public awareness activities across the city.

The campaign is being conducted through the civic body’s public health department against the backdrop of the rainy season. Municipal teams are identifying mosquito-breeding sites in different areas and taking steps to eliminate them, while residents are being informed about precautions against mosquito-borne diseases.

According to the corporation, seasonal changes can increase mosquito breeding in the city. Rising temperature and humidity create conditions that allow mosquitoes to lay eggs and multiply, increasing the risk of diseases such as dengue, malaria and chikungunya.

As part of the drive, civic teams are carrying out fogging, chemical spraying, larval surveys and the elimination of mosquito-breeding sites. Additional spraying is being undertaken at sensitive locations, the corporation said. The measures are intended to identify and address breeding points before they contribute to a wider spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

The campaign also includes activities inside housing complexes and at public locations. Meetings in residential complexes, corner meetings and direct public-awareness efforts are being used to guide residents on precautions and preventive action.

The civic body has also installed 41,221 awareness posters across the city, according to information provided by the corporation. The posters have been placed on buildings, at major junctions, in public spaces, government offices, health centres and other crowded locations.

The campaign places emphasis on both municipal intervention and public participation. While fogging, spraying and larval surveys are being conducted by civic teams, the awareness activities are intended to help residents recognise and address conditions that support mosquito breeding around homes and other shared spaces.

The corporation’s preventive work is being carried out across various parts of Vasai-Virar, with additional spraying planned for locations identified as sensitive during the campaign. The public health department has not provided figures in the supplied report on dengue, malaria or chikungunya cases, or on the number of mosquito-breeding sites eliminated.

The municipal campaign will continue through its fogging, spraying, larval-survey, breeding-site elimination and public-awareness activities, the corporation said.
