Palghar district will get three new additional tehsildar offices at Kasa, Boisar and Virar after the Maharashtra Revenue Department approved their establishment through a government decision issued on September 22. The move is intended to bring revenue services closer to residents and speed up administration in areas facing rising workloads, population growth and rapid urbanisation.
The new offices will cover parts of Dahanu, Palghar and Vasai talukas. The decision follows proposals to create additional tehsildar offices in Kasa, Boisar and Nilmore. While Nilmore was initially proposed as the headquarters for the Vasai taluka office, the government has approved Virar as the location instead.
The state’s decision cites the increasing volume of work in government offices, inadequate availability of officers and staff, the geographical spread of the talukas, population growth and urbanisation. It says the additional offices are intended to make administration more citizen-oriented, strengthen tehsil offices and ensure that services are available more easily and closer to residents.
The approved Boisar office will cover four revenue circles from Palghar taluka: Boisar, Tarapur, Lalonde and Manor. Palghar taluka currently has 10 revenue circles. The allocation places Manor within the jurisdiction of the Boisar additional tehsildar office, a decision that has caused dissatisfaction among residents of the Manor area.
Residents of the Manor revenue circle had submitted objections and suggestions during the process for finalising the headquarters and jurisdiction of the proposed offices. They had sought to remain within the Palghar revenue circle instead of being included under the proposed Boisar office. Despite those objections, the government decision retains Manor under the Boisar office’s jurisdiction.
The Kasa additional tehsildar office will cover three revenue circles from Dahanu taluka: Kasa, Sayvan and Charoti. Dahanu has nine revenue circles in total. The arrangement is expected to give residents in these areas an administrative point closer to their settlements, although the government decision as reported does not specify the date on which the offices will begin functioning or the staff sanctioned for them.
The Virar office will include the Virar, Agashi, Mandvi and Bolinj revenue circles of Vasai taluka. The change from Nilmore to Virar places the proposed headquarters in one of the district’s rapidly urbanising areas. The final operational structure, including office premises, staffing and the detailed delivery of services, remains to be set out in the implementation process.
The government had invited written objections and suggestions from citizens regarding the headquarters and jurisdiction of the proposed additional offices. The September 22 decision now provides approval for all three offices, while the next administrative steps will determine how the new units are staffed and when residents can begin accessing services through them.
