Palghar district will get three new Additional Tehsildar offices at Kasa, Boisar and Virar after the Maharashtra Revenue Department issued a government decision approving their establishment. The move is intended to bring revenue services closer to residents and speed up administration across areas facing rising workloads, population growth and urbanisation, according to a report by Loksatta – Palghar.
The government decision was issued on 22 September. It follows proposals to create additional revenue administration centres in Dahanu, Palghar and Vasai talukas, where the existing offices are required to manage a growing volume of public services with limited officer and staff capacity.
The new offices are expected to strengthen the existing tehsil administration and make services available nearer to citizens. Revenue offices commonly handle public-facing administrative work connected with land records, certificates and other government services, although the report does not specify the individual services or staffing schedules for the three approved offices.
In Palghar taluka, the proposed Boisar Additional Tehsildar office will cover four revenue circles: Boisar, Tarapur, Lalonde and Manor. Palghar taluka currently has 10 revenue circles, according to the report. The inclusion of Manor has become a point of contention, with residents of the area expressing displeasure after their objections and requests to remain under the Palghar circle were not accepted.
The Kasa office will cover three revenue circles in Dahanu taluka: Kasa, Saiwan and Charoti. Dahanu has nine revenue circles in total. The arrangement is intended to create a closer administrative unit for residents in the northern parts of the district, although the report does not provide details on the office premises, sanctioned posts or the date on which services will begin.
In Vasai taluka, the government has approved Virar as the headquarters of the new Additional Tehsildar office instead of the previously proposed location at Nilemore. The Virar office will include the Virar, Agashi, Mandvi and Bolinj revenue circles.
Before the decision was issued, the administration had invited written objections and suggestions from citizens regarding the headquarters and jurisdiction of the proposed offices. The dispute over Manor indicates that the creation of a new administrative office is not only a question of distance, but also of how local areas are grouped within the revenue system.
The decision reflects the administrative pressures created by Palghar’s expanding settlements and uneven geography. Boisar, Virar and surrounding areas combine established villages, industrial and residential growth, and increasingly dense urban activity. The government’s stated objective is to make administration more citizen-oriented and improve the speed of official work. The next operational steps, including office locations, staffing and commencement of services, were not specified in the report.
