The Indrakeeladri Ghat Road leading to Vijayawada’s Durga Temple will remain closed to all vehicular traffic for a week from September 22 as authorities undertake road repair and maintenance work ahead of the Dasara festival.
Durga Temple Executive Officer VK Seena Naik said devotees would not be permitted to use the ghat road during the closure. Visitors will instead have to reach the temple through Sri Kanaka Durga Nagar, according to the announcement reported by Deccan Chronicle.
The temporary traffic restriction is expected to alter the usual access arrangements to the temple, particularly for devotees arriving by private vehicles. The temple administration has directed visitors to use designated parking areas and the free bus services arranged to connect those locations with the temple.
For devotees travelling from Hyderabad, parking facilities have been arranged near Punnami Ghat. Free buses will operate from Punnami Ghat to the temple, allowing visitors to leave their vehicles away from the closed ghat road and continue their journey by public transport.
Devotees arriving from Visakhapatnam, Chennai and other locations through the One Town Police Station route will have to park at Seethamma Vari Padalu. Free bus services will also be available from this parking area to the temple, the Executive Officer said.
The closure comes as the temple administration carries out preparations ahead of Dasara, a period that brings increased visitor movement to the Durga Temple. By shifting vehicle parking to designated locations and providing bus transfers, the administration has sought to keep access open while repair and maintenance work is underway on the ghat road.
The temple authorities have urged devotees to avoid attempting to use the closed route and to follow the designated parking and transport arrangements. Visitors have been advised to plan their arrival through the specified access points and use the free buses to complete the journey to the temple.
The Indrakeeladri Ghat Road will remain closed for the stated one-week period beginning September 22, with access during this period routed through Sri Kanaka Durga Nagar and the designated parking facilities at Punnami Ghat and Seethamma Vari Padalu.
