Gurugram Police have arrested Kalyan Bainsla in Rajasthan after a car allegedly struck woman motorbike rider Siya on Golf Course Road and the driver fled the scene. Police said the investigation has now led to the addition of an attempt-to-murder charge under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which carries a provision of up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
The incident occurred on Sunday when Siya, whose real name is Shivani Chauhan, was riding with a friend in Gurugram. According to the account shared in a video on her Instagram page, a white car followed her on Golf Course Road and the driver tried to stop her. When she increased the speed of her motorcycle, the car allegedly cut across her path and hit the bike.
The collision caused her to fall on the road. Her friend reportedly stopped the car at a traffic signal, but the driver left the location. The video showing the collision was later circulated on social media, drawing attention to the incident and prompting questions about the identity of the rider and the police response.
Gurugram Police Commissioner Shibash Kaviraj said the accused was arrested from Rajgarh in Rajasthan on Tuesday. Police said they conducted an investigation and analysed CCTV footage from the area before adding the more serious charge to the case.
The Gurugram Police also said it took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered a case at Sector 56 police station. The police account identifies Bainsla as the driver who allegedly struck the motorcycle and subsequently left the scene. The investigation and the charges remain based on the police case and evidence collected by investigators.
The rider is known online as Siya through her Instagram account, ‘Siya on Wheels’. Her real name is Shivani Chauhan. According to the report, she is a graduate and has completed a course in fashion designing. She had also contested a municipal election from Kalkaji on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, although she was not successful. Her father’s name is given as Roshan Chauhan.
The case places renewed focus on how road users are protected when a collision is followed by an alleged attempt to flee. In this matter, the police have said that CCTV analysis helped identify and trace the accused outside Haryana. The next steps will depend on the investigation and the legal process arising from the charges filed at Sector 56 police station.
