A Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) protest in Hingoli has put stalled development projects, including a government medical college, a 430-bed hospital and irrigation works, at the centre of a renewed confrontation with the Maharashtra government.
The protest, titled “Tumse Na Ho Payega”, was led by Maharashtra Legislative Council member and former Leader of the Opposition in the council, Ambadas Danve. The party said the mobilisation was aimed at highlighting unmet development commitments in Marathwada ahead of Marathwada Liberation Day on September 17.
Speaking at a public meeting in Hingoli, Danve alleged that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had made 780 promises related to development works, but that less than 1.5% of the commitments for the district had been completed. The claim was made during the protest and was not accompanied in the report by an official government status document.
Danve called for the government to provide an account of completed works rather than make further announcements. According to the report, the demands raised by the party include the establishment of a government medical college and a 430-bed hospital, a turmeric research centre, and progress on the India-based Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or LIGO-India, research project.
The list also includes development of the Aundha Nagnath pilgrimage site, a water-supply scheme, improvements to city roads, national highways and railway overbridges, as well as elevated dams, roads, bridges and irrigation projects under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, or NABARD.
The protest places healthcare capacity and basic infrastructure alongside large research and regional connectivity projects. In Hingoli, the demand for a government medical college and hospital relates directly to the availability of public healthcare facilities. The demands concerning roads, railway overbridges, water supply and irrigation relate to the infrastructure systems that connect settlements, support mobility and influence agricultural activity across the district.
The party also raised the broader development gap in Marathwada. Danve said the region continued to face injustice despite joining Maharashtra without conditions after its liberation from the rule of the Nizam of Hyderabad in 1948. He further claimed that Marathwada records the highest number of farmer suicides in the state. That statement was presented as part of the political address and was not independently substantiated in the report.
Before submitting a memorandum to Hingoli Resident Collector Pratiksha Bhute, Danve said the agitation would continue until September 17. The campaign is scheduled to conclude in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in the presence of Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray. The report did not include a response from the Maharashtra government to the allegations or a project-wise update on the works named by the party.
