NDMC has activated dedicated medical, disaster-response and quick-response teams across its jurisdiction to maintain civic and emergency services during the BRICS Summit in Delhi, with round-the-clock monitoring at its Integrated Command and Control Centre and drainage teams deployed ahead of forecast rain.
The New Delhi Municipal Council said the arrangements would remain in place from September 10 to 15 to support medical emergencies and the large workforce deployed by multiple agencies for summit-related duties. The measures include continued emergency operations at Charak Palika Hospital and Palika Maternity Hospital, along with a satellite hospital facility for personnel working on the ground.
According to NDMC officials, the casualty and emergency services at Charak Palika Hospital and emergency services at Palika Maternity Hospital have remained fully operational throughout the summit period. Dedicated arrangements have also been made to ensure that essential medical services and patient care continue without disruption.
A Quick Medical Response Team comprising 11 specialist doctors, nursing officers and other medical personnel has been constituted for immediate deployment during a medical emergency. NDMC has also activated a Disaster Management Team of eight senior specialists, heads of departments and support staff. The team has been placed on standby at the hospital to respond to a mass-casualty incident or another disaster situation, an NDMC order stated.
The civic body’s Integrated Command and Control Centre at Palika Kendra is operating around the clock to monitor municipal services and coordinate responses across the NDMC area. About 50 staff members are working through 18 screens, monitoring civic services and traffic movement in coordination with the Delhi Police, Traffic Police, Central Public Works Department and other agencies, NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Chahal said after visiting the facility.
Nodal officers from different departments have been assigned to coordinate with NDMC wings and external agencies. Officials said a logbook is being maintained to record complaints and the action taken on them. No complaints related to waterlogging or traffic mismanagement had been received until September 12, according to the civic body.
Rain preparedness forms another part of the response. Drainage-patrolling teams have been deployed at vulnerable locations, while executive engineers have been placed on round-the-clock duty. Dewatering pumps, including mobile units, have been stationed at critical points so they can be deployed if required.
The arrangements are scheduled to continue through September 15, covering the summit period and the associated deployment of personnel and agencies across the NDMC jurisdiction.
