Ghaziabad train cancellations affected daily commuters on Saturday, with around 13 local services cancelled and long-distance trains diverted as Northern Railway cited operational reasons for changes between September 11 and 13. Passengers travelling from Ghaziabad towards New Delhi, Delhi, Palwal, Panipat and other destinations turned to the Delhi Metro, buses, cabs and private vehicles.
The disruption was visible at Ghaziabad railway station from the morning, as regular passengers sought information about cancelled and diverted services. The cancellations affected commuters who depend on local trains for routine journeys to offices and other essential destinations.
According to the report, Northern Railway decided to cancel several local trains and operate some long-distance services on diverted routes during the three-day period. Railway officials cited operational reasons for the decision but did not provide further details in the report about the specific works or operating conditions behind the changes.
Passengers said local trains were among the most convenient and affordable ways to travel from Ghaziabad to Delhi-NCR destinations. With several services unavailable at the same time, commuters faced longer journeys and higher travel costs while using alternative modes.
Commuter Vivek Tiwari said travelling by means other than train required more time and money. Passengers using the Metro, buses, cabs and private vehicles were therefore required to adjust their usual travel arrangements to reach their destinations.
Railway announcements were being made at Ghaziabad station to inform passengers about the affected trains. Northern Railway advised travellers to check the operating status and scheduled timing of their train before starting their journey. The cancellations and diversions are scheduled to remain in effect through September 13, according to the report.
