Pune traffic changes will affect central Pune, the Dengle Bridge area in Shivajinagar, Sarasbaug and Keshavnagar in Mundhwa between September 12 and 14 as crowds gather for Ganesh idol shopping and consecration ceremonies, according to a report quoting the city traffic branch.
The Dengle Bridge area in Shivajinagar, where sellers have set up Ganesh idol stalls, will see traffic changes on Saturday, September 12, Sunday, September 13 and Monday, September 14. The measures are intended to manage the expected increase in pedestrian and vehicle movement around the stalls.
For the consecration ceremony, the stretch from Gadgil Statue Chowk on Chhatrapati Shivaji Road to Gotiram Bhaiyya Chowk in Mandai will be closed to traffic. Vehicles have been directed to use Santaji Ghorpade Path, Kumbharves Chowk and Shahid Amar Sheikh Chowk in Mangalwar Peth as alternative routes.
Vehicles travelling from Jhansi Rani Statue Chowk on Jungli Maharaj Road towards Khude Chowk and Kumbharwada have been asked to turn left after crossing Chhatrapati Shivaji Bridge and proceed through Santaji Ghorpade Path towards Kumbharves.
Parking restrictions will also apply around Sarasbaug. All types of vehicles will be prohibited from parking between Swatantryaveer Savarkar Statue Chowk and the Samadhana Bhel Centre area. The traffic branch has asked motorists to park near Mitramandal Chowk, Patil Plaza and the Nilayam Cinema area instead.
Additional closures are scheduled in central Pune on Monday, September 14. These include the stretch from Fadke Houd Chowk in Kasba Peth to Jijamata Chowk, as well as routes around Futka Buruj, Appa Balwant Chowk, Hutatma Chowk, Wednesday Chowk, Moti Chowk and the road opposite Mangala Cinema.
Traffic diversions will also be implemented in Keshavnagar in Mundhwa on September 14, where devotees are expected to gather to purchase Ganesh idols. The reported traffic arrangements were announced in view of the crowd expected at the ceremonies and shopping areas.
