Delhi traffic diversions and regulated movement will be implemented on key routes from 9.30 am to 9 pm on September 12 and 13 as New Delhi hosts the 18th BRICS Summit, while the Delhi Metro will begin services at 6 am on Sunday to support commuters and students appearing for examinations.
The Delhi Traffic Police said temporary traffic regulations may be introduced during the movement of dignitaries, particularly between 9.30 am and 9.30 pm, in and around the notified Controlled Area. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow additional travel time and use public transport, especially the Metro, wherever feasible.
In an advisory posted on X, the traffic police said diversions and regulated movement would be implemented on key routes across Delhi. Road users have been asked to follow designated diversion routes and instructions issued by traffic personnel during the summit-related movement.
Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage, according to the advisory. The traffic police has also asked commuters to account for possible delays while travelling through areas affected by the temporary restrictions.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation said services on all lines will commence at 6 am on Sunday, September 13. The early start is intended to facilitate the movement of students appearing for examinations as well as members of the general public. DMRC advised students and passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.
The transport arrangements come as India hosts the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India’s chairship of the grouping is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, with development, sustainability and innovation identified as areas of focus.
The traffic restrictions will remain linked to the movement of summit dignitaries and the notified Controlled Area during the stated hours. Commuters travelling in Delhi on September 12 and 13 have been asked to rely on official traffic instructions and consider the Metro where possible.
