IMD Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Forecast Across 15 States

Light rain is expected in Delhi from Friday, while the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states, including Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Telangana. The forecast also includes thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of eastern, central and southern India.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for 10 districts of Jharkhand until Friday morning. The districts named in the warning are Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Chatra, Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar and Jamtara. A similar warning has been issued for Latehar, Chatra, Palamu and Garhwa for the following 24 hours.

Jharkhand is expected to receive widespread rainfall, with heavy showers likely in parts of the state. Odisha is forecast to receive widespread rain on Friday and Saturday, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places on Friday and another spell of heavy rain likely on Saturday.

In Delhi-NCR, the IMD has forecast light rainfall from Friday, with generally cloudy conditions. Heavy rain is also possible later in the forecast period. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive rain and thundershowers at a few places over the next two days, while western Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain largely dry. Scattered rainfall is forecast over eastern Uttar Pradesh, with thunderstorms and lightning likely on Friday.

The forecast covers a broad belt across eastern and central India. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive widespread rainfall from Friday, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may see widespread rain through Saturday. Heavy rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and the eastern states, with thunderstorms and lightning expected in parts of the region.

Chhattisgarh is likely to receive widespread rainfall over the coming days, including heavy rain on Friday and isolated very heavy rain on Saturday. East Madhya Pradesh may receive heavy rain on Friday, while rainfall is expected to become more widespread over west Madhya Pradesh from Saturday.

In southern India, Kerala is forecast to receive widespread rainfall on Friday and Saturday, with heavy rain possible during the period. Telangana may also see widespread rain and heavy showers. Coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rain on Friday, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are possible in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

The IMD has forecast continued high rainfall activity over eastern and central India through the weekend. Odisha and Chhattisgarh may continue to receive heavy showers on Saturday, with very heavy rain still possible over Odisha. Rainfall is also expected to become more widespread over central Maharashtra and Marathwada from Saturday. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to see more widespread rainfall during the coming days.
