Light rain and generally cloudy conditions are expected in Delhi from Friday, while the India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall across several states, including Odisha, Jharkhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh and Kerala.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for 10 districts of Jharkhand until Friday morning. The districts are Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Chatra, Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Deoghar and Jamtara. A similar warning covers Latehar, Chatra, Palamu and Garhwa for the following 24 hours.
Jharkhand is expected to receive widespread rainfall, with heavy showers likely in parts of the state. Odisha is forecast to experience widespread rain on Friday and Saturday, with very heavy rainfall possible at isolated places on Friday and another spell of heavy rain likely on Saturday.
The weather department has also forecast heavy rain over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, east Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely over parts of eastern, central and southern India.
In the Northeast, widespread rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from Friday, while Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive widespread rain through Saturday. Assam and Meghalaya may also see heavy rainfall.
Eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive rain and thundershowers at a few places over the next two days, while western Uttar Pradesh is expected to remain largely dry. Delhi-NCR may see light rain from Friday, with heavy rain possible later in the forecast period.
The IMD said rainfall activity is expected to remain high over eastern and central India through the weekend. More widespread rainfall is forecast over west Madhya Pradesh, central Maharashtra and Marathwada from Saturday, while Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also likely to see increased rainfall during the coming days.
