Potholes on the Uran-Konkan route, including the Khopate bridge and roads under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department and CIDCO, are raising concerns about traffic disruption for Ganeshotsav travellers from Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. The affected roads are used by motorists heading towards Konkan through Uran, with officials saying traffic arrangements are being planned for the festival period.
The Gavan Phata–Chirner–Kharpada route through Uran taluka is used by many travellers because it can reduce the journey by about 8 to 10 kilometres. While some stretches are reported to be in good condition, several sections have potholes. Unauthorised parking along the route is also contributing to congestion, according to the report.
Traffic congestion is currently being reported on the Chirner–Gavan Phata–Dighode stretch. The disruption could increase during Ganeshotsav, when vehicle movement towards Konkan rises. The route connects travellers from the Mumbai metropolitan region with roads leading towards the Mumbai-Goa National Highway and other Konkan destinations.
Road conditions have also been reported as poor on the Khopate–Koproli road, which falls under the Public Works Department. Potholes have been reported on the coastal road under CIDCO’s control as well. The Chirner–Kharpada road near Sai village has also developed substantial potholes, according to the report.
The problems are affecting routes that serve both through traffic and local movement in Uran taluka. Travellers using the alternative route may save distance, but potholes and roadside parking can slow vehicles and create bottlenecks. The reported road damage is therefore linked to both travel delays and the management of increased festival traffic.
Residents have called for urgent repairs to the affected roads before the movement of Ganeshotsav travellers intensifies. The report does not specify a repair deadline or identify a confirmed roadwork schedule from CIDCO or the Public Works Department.
Sanjay Patil, senior police inspector in the Uran traffic division, said arrangements would be made to address congestion on the Uran route. “Planning will be undertaken to remove traffic congestion on the Uran route. Therefore, there will be no congestion during Ganeshotsav,” Patil said, according to the report.
The immediate issues identified are pothole repairs, unauthorised parking and traffic planning on the Gavan Phata–Chirner–Kharpada corridor and connected roads. The condition of the Khopate bridge, the Khopate–Koproli road, the CIDCO coastal road and the section near Sai village will remain important for travellers using the Uran route during the festival period.
