CID investigators have conducted a face-to-face questioning of IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar and intermediary Basavaraj Kannale in connection with an alleged Karnataka Public Service Commission recruitment scam, according to a report by Prajavani published on September 6.
The two accused, who have reportedly been in CID custody for seven days, were questioned separately before being brought together in the same room on Saturday. Investigators recorded their statements and asked questions about the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
According to sources cited in the report, Gangwar and Kannale made counter-allegations during the confrontation. Gangwar allegedly accused Kannale of being responsible for the activities under investigation, while Kannale allegedly claimed that Gangwar had asked him to bring candidates in exchange for money. These allegations have not been independently established in court.
Investigators also reportedly presented documents recovered during the probe to the two men. The sources said both became silent after the documents were shown to them.
The CID is also examining a diary allegedly recovered from Kannale’s residence in Sanjay Nagar. According to the report, the diary contained names of candidates who had allegedly paid advance amounts for government posts as veterinary officers. The candidates named in the diary have been called for questioning, the report said.
The investigation has also identified six candidates who scored relatively low marks in the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry course but obtained high scores in the competitive examination for veterinary officer posts. They have also reportedly been questioned by the CID.
The reported developments form part of an ongoing investigation. The allegations, including claims involving the accused individuals and the selected candidates, remain subject to the findings of the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings.
