The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGS-RTC) has arranged 5,000 special buses from August 27 to 31 to manage the expected passenger rush during Rakhi Pournami across Telangana.
The corporation has increased the number of special services by 240 compared with last year, when 4,760 buses were operated during the festival period. The additional services are aimed at helping passengers travel smoothly during the peak festive period. Senior RTC officials reviewed passenger demand, special bus operations and arrangements for return journeys through a video conference. Officials were instructed to immediately deploy additional buses wherever passenger crowds increase and adjust services based on demand. The biggest rush is expected during the return journey from the afternoon of August 30 through August 31. RTC officials have been asked to prepare in advance and closely monitor passenger movement at major bus stations and crowded locations.
Field-level officials will remain available at important bus stations to manage the rush and arrange additional services wherever necessary. Authorities have also been directed to ensure drinking water, sanitation and cleanliness at bus stations. The Mahalaxmi scheme, which provides free bus travel for women passengers, will continue during the festival period. TGS-RTC has advised officials to maintain sufficient bus availability according to passenger demand.
The special services are expected to support smoother travel between Hyderabad and various destinations across Telangana during the festive rush. With increased bus deployment and closer monitoring, the RTC aims to reduce overcrowding and help passengers reach their destinations safely.
