West Bengal has completed the creation of nearly 10 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts, or ABHA accounts, according to information from the state health department. The milestone covers residents enrolled in the digital health account system under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
The state’s progress on ABHA accounts comes as the registration of doctors and nursing professionals on the Healthcare Professionals Registry remains incomplete. Most government doctors and nursing professionals in West Bengal are yet to be registered, although the pace of enrolment has improved, the report said.
The Healthcare Professionals Registry is another component of the digital health programme. Its coverage is intended to include healthcare professionals working across the state’s public and private medical system. The health department has not yet completed the registration of a large share of government medical and nursing staff.
More than 14,000 government hospitals, health centres, nursing homes and private hospitals have been included in the relevant digital health network, according to the report. This total comprises about 12,000 government hospitals and health centres and approximately 2,200 nursing homes and private hospitals.
The figures indicate that the state’s digital health infrastructure is advancing at different speeds across its main components. Patient-facing ABHA account creation has reached nearly 10 crore residents, while the institutional and professional registries required to connect healthcare providers to the system are still being expanded.
The report did not provide a completion deadline for the remaining Healthcare Professionals Registry enrolments. The state health department is continuing the registration process, with the pace of enrolment currently described as satisfactory.
