Welspun Corp has approved investments of up to ₹2,280 crore to expand its steel pipe manufacturing operations in the United States and Jordan, adding capacity for oil and gas pipelines, water systems and other large infrastructure projects. The company announced the decisions alongside its September-quarter results, which showed a 3% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to ₹499 crore.
The company will invest up to ₹1,093 crore to expand spiral pipe manufacturing capacity at its existing facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. The expansion will add 2.25 lakh tonnes per annum of high-frequency submerged arc welded pipe capacity to the facility’s existing 3.5 lakh tonnes, taking its total capacity to 5.75 lakh tonnes per annum.
Welspun Corp expects the additional US facility to become operational in March 2028. The investment will be funded through internal accruals. The company cited its order book, demand conditions and long-term visibility in the US oil and gas pipeline market as the basis for the expansion.
A further investment of approximately ₹1,188 crore has been approved for a joint project with Perma-Pipe in Jordan. The partners plan to establish spiral pipe manufacturing and advanced coating facilities capable of producing pipes ranging from 24 inches to 120 inches in diameter. The facilities are intended to supply water, oil and gas, energy and infrastructure projects in Jordan and nearby regional markets.
Welspun Corp and Perma-Pipe are expected to fund the Jordan project approximately equally. The companies had signed a memorandum of understanding with the developers of Jordan’s National Water Carrier Project and the Jordanian government in September. The board has now approved the investment, while definitive agreements covering governance and operational arrangements are expected to be executed later.
The company said the Jordan venture could support future infrastructure and reconstruction requirements in neighbouring markets. It also identified potential opportunities connected with regional oil and gas infrastructure routed towards the Port of Aqaba. The project’s execution will depend on the completion of the definitive agreements and the arrangements between the partners.
Welspun Corp’s consolidated revenue from operations rose 6% year-on-year to ₹4,644 crore during the quarter. Separately, its board approved a joint venture with Perma-Pipe Qatar for internal fusion-bonded epoxy coating operations in India.
Welspun Corp will hold a 49% stake in Welspun Special Coating Pvt Ltd, while Perma-Pipe Qatar will own the remaining 51%. The investment in the Indian coating venture is estimated at up to ₹110 crore and will be shared according to the partners’ respective holdings. The company’s next milestones are the execution of the Jordan project agreements and the planned commissioning of the expanded US capacity in March 2028.
