Vimag Labs has started production at its first manufacturing facility in Jhajjar, Haryana, and plans to invest around ₹50 crore in a phased expansion aimed at increasing its capacity for motor, control and propulsion systems. The Accel-backed deep-tech startup said it has already completed and exported its first production batch from the facility.
The Jhajjar plant is the starting point of the company’s planned manufacturing build-out in India. Vimag said the investment will be deployed as the facility and wider manufacturing network expand, with the scale of spending expected to evolve alongside market traction and new expansion opportunities.
The company currently manufactures and assembles motor and control systems and related propulsion systems. Its initial production focus at Jhajjar is on mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes, covering industrialisation, process validation and serial production.
“Our initial focus is on scaling mid-power motor and control systems for commercial programmes,” Manish Seth, co-founder and chief executive officer of Vimag Labs, said in a statement. “As customer programmes mature, we plan to extend manufacturing into high-power systems of 570 kW and above and deepen partnerships across India for manufacturing, supply chain, tooling and industrialisation.”
The current facility covers 10,000 square feet and can be expanded to approximately 20,000 square feet, according to the company. Vimag said its manufacturing network is designed to scale towards production of up to 10,000 motor and control systems per month as customer volumes increase.
The company’s stated plan places the Jhajjar facility within a broader effort to create an India-based production base serving both domestic and global programmes. The proposed expansion would involve manufacturing, quality, testing, engineering, supply chain and operations, with local recruitment expected to form an important part of the workforce increase.
Vimag expects the manufacturing build-out to create approximately 100 to 150 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The announcement does not specify the timetable for reaching that employment level or the schedule for each phase of the proposed investment.
The production start follows Vimag’s recent $5 million Series A funding round led by Accel, with participation from Chakra Growth Fund and Thinkuvate. The company said the Jhajjar facility will support capacity expansion as customer programmes develop. Its next steps are to continue process validation and serial production while assessing further capacity and manufacturing partnerships in India.
