Vashi Ganesh Visarjan Traffic Plan: Navi Mumbai Police have begun coordinating with Ganesh mandals to manage traffic, parking and noise levels during the upcoming immersion period, when large idols from Mumbai are expected to arrive at Vashi Creek.
The coordination meeting was held on Tuesday by the Vashi division under Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate Circle One. Police Joint Commissioner Deepak Sakore attended the meeting with office-bearers of Ganesh mandals and discussed arrangements for the festival.
Several mandals raised issues involving delays in obtaining permissions, pandal construction, electricity supply, matters related to the City and Industrial Development Corporation, and water supply. Police officials assured the organisers that they would coordinate with the relevant departments to address these issues promptly.
To improve communication between the administration and the mandals, police personnel will be appointed under the “one Ganpati, one officer” arrangement. The assigned personnel will help organisers raise operational issues with the administration during the festival preparations.
The movement of large Ganesh idols from Mumbai to Vashi Creek is expected to increase vehicle volumes on key roads in Vashi during immersion operations. Police said they would coordinate with Mumbai-based mandals and prepare arrangements to keep traffic moving during the immersion period.
Parking is expected to be a particular challenge. The number of vehicles on the roads rises substantially during Ganeshotsav, while available road space and parking capacity remain limited. Police said parking would therefore be planned in a manner that does not obstruct traffic.
Officials also urged mandals to follow traffic management requirements and noise-pollution rules. Sakore said mandals, elected representatives and residents had cooperated with police during the recent Dahi Handi celebrations and called for similar cooperation during Ganeshotsav. The detailed traffic and parking arrangements will be coordinated with the participating mandals and concerned departments before the immersion period.
