Vashi Ganesh Visarjan Traffic Plan preparations have begun in Navi Mumbai, with police holding a coordination meeting with local Ganesh mandals to address congestion, parking, permissions and noise-control compliance during the upcoming festival. The meeting was held on Tuesday under the Vashi division of Navi Mumbai Police’s Zone 1, according to a report by Loksatta – Navi Mumbai.
Large Ganesh idols from parts of Mumbai are immersed in the Vashi Creek area. The movement of these idols, along with the arrival of vehicles carrying devotees and mandal members, is expected to increase traffic on key roads in Vashi during the immersion period. Police said coordination with Mumbai-based Ganesh mandals would be part of the planning to keep traffic moving during the visarjan process.
Ganesh mandal representatives raised several administrative and logistical issues at the meeting. These included delays in obtaining permissions for the festival, mandap construction, electricity supply, matters involving the City and Industrial Development Corporation, and water-supply difficulties. Police officials assured the representatives that coordination with the relevant departments would be undertaken to resolve the issues at the earliest.
To make it easier for mandals to contact the administration, Navi Mumbai Police will appoint personnel under an “one Ganpati, one employee” arrangement. The assigned police personnel are expected to serve as contact points for the mandals and help coordinate their requests with the administration and other departments.
Parking is expected to be a particular challenge during the festival. Police said the number of vehicles on the roads rises substantially during Ganeshotsav, while the available road space and parking capacity remain limited. The traffic plan will therefore focus on arranging parking in a way that does not obstruct vehicle movement, although the report did not provide details of specific parking locations, diversions or road closures.
The police also raised the issue of noise pollution. Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate Joint Commissioner Deepak Sakore said mandals, public representatives and residents had cooperated with the police during the Dahi Handi celebrations. He appealed to the mandals to extend similar cooperation during Ganeshotsav and follow traffic-management and noise-pollution rules.
The meeting comes as Navi Mumbai authorities prepare for the movement of large idols towards the Vashi Creek immersion area. The police have not yet announced a detailed public schedule of traffic restrictions or diversion routes in the information available in the report. Further arrangements are expected to be made through coordination between the police, Ganesh mandals and the civic and infrastructure agencies involved in festival preparations.
