Urgent Call for Road Fixes Ahead of Chaturthi Festivities

The residents of Ponda have voiced urgent concerns over the deteriorating condition of the town’s roads, demanding immediate repairs to ensure safety and ease of movement during the festival. Vishal Fadte, a local resident, emphasised the pressing nature of the issue, noting that the condition of both main roads and internal village routes could pose serious risks to commuters and pedestrians.

The roads in question, particularly those around the Ponda market, near the bus stand, and at the petrol pump in Upper Bazaar, have become notorious for their large potholes. These areas are crucial for daily traffic and shopping activities, with potholes causing significant traffic disruptions and congestion. Residents fear that with the influx of festival-goers, these roads will only worsen, leading to increased accidents and chaos. In addition to the road repairs, residents are calling for the deployment of additional traffic police personnel after 6 pm. This measure is intended to manage the increased traffic flow in the market area during the peak hours of the festival, mitigating the risk of accidents and ensuring smooth traffic movement.

The demand for road repairs underscores a broader concern about public safety and the need for effective infrastructure management. The deteriorating road conditions not only impact daily life but also pose a significant risk during major public events. Local authorities are urged to address these issues promptly to ensure that the festival can be celebrated safely and without incident.
