Hyderabad police will deploy around 2,200 personnel, 408 CCTV cameras and two drones around the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal for the India-West Indies fourth T20 international, with approximately 40,000 spectators expected on Wednesday. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
Malkajgiri commissioner B. Sumathi said personnel from several police wings would be positioned at stadium entry and exit gates, player areas, dugouts and restricted zones. Four police watch teams in civil dress will conduct surveillance inside the stadium, while the camera and drone network will support security monitoring, crowd management and traffic regulation.
The scale of the deployment reflects the operational demands created when a large sporting event is held within a dense urban transport network. Police have identified parking capacity for approximately 8,000 vehicles, including 4,600 cars and 3,400 two-wheelers. Parking inside the stadium will be restricted to VVIPs, VIPs and authorised pass holders, with other spectators directed to designated areas outside the venue.
The listed external parking locations include Jain Properties, Modern Bakery and Agarwal Properties on Uppal-Ramanthapur Road, and TG IALA on Uppal-Habsiguda Road. Additional areas have been identified near NGRI Metro-Stadium Metro, the Genpact T-Junction-Hindu Office stretch, DSL Mall-Street No. 8 in Ramanthapur and the LG Godown-Chemveda Junction stretch on IDA Uppal Lane. Police said the use of additional parking areas would remain subject to Traffic Police authorisation.
Spectators travelling from Tarnaka and Secunderabad have been advised to use the Tarnaka-Habsiguda-Survey of India-Uppal Junction route before proceeding to designated parking or the stadium. Those coming from Amberpet and Ramanthapur have been directed through Ramanthapur, LG Godown and the DSL Mall U-turn, while spectators from LB Nagar and Nagole have been advised to travel via Nagole and Uppal Junction.
Traffic police have also announced diversions for heavy vehicles at Nagole U-turn near Pillar No. 814, Mehfil Junction, Habsiguda Junction and Street No. 8 in Ramanthapur. Routes through Bhagayath, Nallacheruvukatta, Chengicherla, Mallapur, Nacharam, Habsiguda and Tarnaka will be used depending on the diversion point. Motorists travelling towards Moosarambagh, Dilsukhnagar and LB Nagar have been asked to follow alternate routes and instructions issued at the time.
Police said traffic may be regulated or stopped at key junctions during emergencies to facilitate the movement of ambulances and other emergency vehicles. Spectators have been advised to reach the stadium early, use public transport where possible, buy tickets only through authorised sources and follow official traffic announcements.
The police have approached the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation and Metro Rail authorities to consider extended operating hours and additional services, subject to operational feasibility. Nagole Metro Station authorities have been specifically asked to consider additional services for spectators returning after the match. Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea have also been requested to enhance mobile network capacity wherever required.
Five She Teams will be deployed at strategic locations to prevent harassment and support women’s safety. Special teams will monitor suspected drug-related activity as part of the security arrangements. The final operating position on additional buses, metro services, parking and traffic restrictions will depend on official announcements and on-ground police directions.
