UP Election 2027 Readiness Tightens Across 18 Districts

The Election Commission has intensified preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections across 18 districts, ordering a fresh check of voter forms, verification of absent, shifted, duplicate and deceased electors, and tighter monitoring of polling infrastructure and security arrangements.

The review covered districts in the Meerut, Saharanpur, Moradabad and Aligarh divisions. The meeting was held at Urja Bhawan in Meerut and chaired by deputy election commissioner Manish Garg, in the presence of Uttar Pradesh chief electoral officer Navdeep Rinwa and senior administrative and police officials.

Garg directed officials to verify the electoral rolls for ASDD voters and ensure minimum facilities at polling stations. He also asked the administration to begin electronic voting machine awareness programmes and improve coordination between neighbouring districts during the election process.

Security preparations formed a significant part of the instructions. Officials were told to conduct vulnerability mapping of sensitive polling locations and deploy flying and static surveillance teams. The Election Commission also directed that webcasting be arranged at all polling stations. Authorities were asked to monitor the movement of illegal liquor closely, including checks at the entry and exit points of distilleries.

Rinwa instructed district election officers to recheck all Forms 6, 7 and 8 entered by computer assistants after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision. Form 6 is used for voter enrolment, Form 7 for objections and deletion requests, and Form 8 for corrections or changes in electoral-roll details. A fresh examination was also ordered for rejected Form 6 applications to ensure that eligible citizens are not left out of the rolls.

The directions also target first-time voter registration. Special enrolment drives will be organised in Classes 11 and 12 and in degree colleges. Officials have additionally been asked to compare panchayat and assembly electoral rolls to identify electors who may be missing from one of the lists.

The Commission said voter information slips must reach electors at least five days before polling. Officials were also instructed to respond promptly to complaints received through social media and refer misleading information to cyber cells. The directions place electoral-roll accuracy, polling-station readiness, surveillance and public information at the centre of the early preparations for the Uttar Pradesh polls.
