Telangana’s voter roll review has cleared nearly 98% of the 92.8 lakh records flagged during the Special Intensive Revision, but more than 1.3 lakh cases are still not accounted for in the latest disposal figures, according to Election Commission data released by the state chief electoral officer.
The district-wise report said 91 lakh cases have been cleared and parked for final publication after scrutiny under the logical discrepancy and no-mapping categories. This includes 59.7 lakh logical discrepancy cases and 31 lakh no-mapping cases. However, the figures leave a gap of about 1.8 lakh cases between the notices issued and the cases cleared for publication.
The report records 54,418 electors as ineligible. Officials said the remaining pending cases are expected to be verified and processed during the period left before publication of the final electoral rolls. Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy said the final size of Telangana’s electorate would depend on the disposal of pending cases, fresh applications and publication of the final rolls.
The revision follows a substantial reduction in the state’s electorate after 73.3 lakh voters were excluded under the absent, shifted, dead and duplicate, or ASDD, categories. Telangana had 3.38 crore electors before the exercise, while the draft roll fell to 2.65 crore after those exclusions.
The authorities subsequently issued notices to 60.5 lakh electors over logical anomalies and to 32.3 lakh electors classified as unmapped. Together, the notices covered 92.8 lakh records. Around 1.7 crore electors remained outside the scrutiny pool and were placed in an “others” category for direct parking in the final publication process.
Taken together, the others, logical discrepancy and no-mapping categories account for nearly 2.6 crore electors, or about 98.7% of the post-ASDD draft electorate, according to the report. The remaining processing stage will therefore determine the final number of voters eligible to appear on the state’s electoral rolls.
The Hyderabad region accounts for a significant share of the scrutiny exercise. Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts generated 38.9 lakh notices, representing 41.93% of all notices issued across Telangana. Of these, 37.9 lakh cases, or nearly 97.3%, have been cleared and parked for final publication under the scrutiny categories.
The Election Commission has also provided another opportunity for electors excluded under the ASDD classification to seek inclusion through Form 6. Such applications will undergo the prescribed field-verification process before a decision is taken. The final electoral rolls will be published after the pending cases and new inclusion applications are processed.
