Telangana will organise Diwali celebrations at nearly two lakh completed homes built under the Indiramma housing scheme, with beneficiaries and their families asked to light lamps outside their new houses and share photographs through a government mobile application.
The programme, titled “Maa Indiramma Intlo Deepavali”, will be conducted across the state under the directions of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, according to Housing Department special secretary VP Gautham. Public representatives, government officials and the chief minister are also expected to participate in the celebrations.
Gautham said the government had sanctioned 5.5 lakh houses under the Indiramma housing scheme through what it described as a transparent process. Nearly two lakh houses had been completed so far, while around ₹8,000 crore had been released to beneficiaries, he said.
Field-level staff and village secretaries have been instructed to organise the celebrations at the doorsteps of completed houses. Beneficiaries have been asked to take photographs with their families while lighting lamps in front of their new homes, upload the images through the Indiramma Houses mobile application and share them on social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
The celebrations are intended to highlight homeownership among families covered by the state housing programme. The event will also place the completed houses within a wider public programme, rather than limiting the scheme’s visibility to construction progress and fund disbursement figures.
Separate Diwali events will be held at construction sites of Indiramma Towers within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area. These sites are intended for beneficiaries who will become residents of the future residential complexes. The government said the gatherings would provide an opportunity for beneficiaries to meet and celebrate together before moving into the planned towers.
The Indiramma Towers events are scheduled to take place between 4 pm and 6 pm on Diwali day. Government officials have urged all beneficiaries to participate in the programme. The state’s latest figures on the housing scheme, including the number of completed homes and funds released, were provided by the housing department through Gautham’s statement.
