Telangana Sets 2028 Deadline to Fill All Police Vacancies

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has set 2028 as the deadline to fill all vacancies in the state police department, while announcing higher compensation for police personnel and Home Guards who die in service.

Addressing the Police Commemoration Parade in Hyderabad on October 21, Reddy said the government had already issued notification to fill 5,000 police vacancies. He instructed Director General of Police C V Anand to take steps to increase the ex-gratia amount for Home Guards who lose their lives while performing their duties from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the recruitment of 112 deputy superintendents of police, describing it as unprecedented in Telangana’s history. He said the government was committed to strengthening the police department because law and order was crucial to the state’s development.

The announcement covers both staffing and welfare. According to the details listed by the Chief Minister, compensation for Head Constables and Assistant Sub-Inspectors will rise from Rs 45 lakh to Rs 1 crore. For Sub-Inspectors, the amount will increase from Rs 45 lakh to Rs 1.25 crore, while compensation for Inspectors will rise from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1.25 crore. The ex-gratia amount for officers at the rank of DSP and Additional SP was listed at Rs 1.50 crore. For SP and IPS officers, it will increase from Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore.

Reddy said the enhanced compensation was not merely financial assistance but a mark of respect from the government towards the families of police martyrs. He paid tribute to personnel including Dev Singh, Pramod Kumar and Gajula Soumya, who, according to the report, died while performing their duties.

The Chief Minister also referred to measures focused on public safety and police modernisation. These include the use of modern technology, the appointment of transgender traffic assistants, and initiatives such as SHE Teams and Stand With Her for women’s safety. Spandana, described as a set of Immediate Protection Teams, has been established to provide rapid protection to women and children during emergencies.

Reddy urged police personnel to deal with cases involving women and children with greater sensitivity and without delay in delivering justice to victims. He also raised concern over drug abuse among young people and commended the Eagle Force for efforts to curb drug trafficking.

The government’s welfare measures also include the Young India Police School, which provides educational opportunities for the children of police personnel, from Home Guards to the rank of DGP. The Chief Minister said the police force’s human-centric approach must continue alongside the adoption of technology.

The next stage is the implementation of the recruitment process already notified for 5,000 posts, followed by the government’s stated objective of filling all police vacancies by 2028.
