The Telangana government has urged the Centre to approve a proposed 6-km LB Nagar–Hayathnagar double-decker corridor and replace a planned earth-wall structure on the LB Nagar–Malkapur section of NH-65 with a viaduct to reduce property acquisition and support future metro integration.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy made the requests to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during a two-day national conclave in Gujarat convened to review road projects and pending proposals from states.
The state has sought sanction for the double-decker corridor under the Centre’s 2026-27 Annual Plan. The proposed elevated structure would connect LB Nagar and Hayathnagar over a 6-km stretch, while the requested viaduct on NH-65 would replace the proposed Reinforced Earth wall on the LB Nagar–Malkapur section.
According to the minister’s requests, the viaduct option would avoid large-scale property acquisition and allow smoother integration with Phase-II of the Miyapur–LB Nagar Metro Rail expansion. The report does not specify whether the Centre has accepted the design change or approved the corridor.
Venkat Reddy also sought final Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approval for widening NH-65 to a six-lane, or 6+2, configuration. He cited traffic volumes of more than 1.20 lakh Passenger Car Units a day and identified accident-prone locations and black spots along the corridor as reasons for expediting the project.
The minister pressed for early financial and Cabinet clearances for the 161.5-km Northern Regional Ring Road, planned between Sangareddy and Choutuppal. He said more than 90 per cent of land acquisition awards had been completed and that tenders had been floated by the National Highways Authority of India. He also requested that the Southern Regional Ring Road be taken up on similar terms, citing its proposed importance for Bharat Future City and industrial clusters.
The requests extend beyond Hyderabad’s immediate road network. Telangana sought an expedited detailed project report for a high-speed freight corridor linking the state’s proposed dry port with Bandar Port in Andhra Pradesh. The proposed link is intended to strengthen freight connectivity between Telangana and the coastal port network, although the report does not provide a construction timeline or estimated cost.
The state also requested Rs 1,230 crore for five eco-friendly tourist and spiritual ropeways connecting Yadadri, Hanuman Hill, Nagarjuna Sagar, Ramagiri Fort and Killa Ramalayam. Separately, it proposed an elevated corridor on NH-765 along the Hyderabad–Srisailam route through the tiger reserve, with the stated aim of protecting wildlife while improving pilgrim connectivity.
Other requests included Rs 1,227.75 crore for 33 Central Road and Infrastructure Fund projects covering 511.68 km, along with approval for three road overbridges or underpasses at Kothagudem, Sultanabad and Nalgonda under the 2026-27 programme.
The next steps depend on the Centre’s consideration of the requested annual-plan sanction, Cabinet and financial clearances, project approvals and the detailed project report for the freight corridor.
