Telangana power demand has reached a new all-time high of 12,044 MW in the jurisdiction of the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL), increasing pressure on the state’s electricity network as Hyderabad and other growth centres expand.
The peak was recorded at 3.52 pm, surpassing the previous financial-year high of 11,828 MW registered on September 11, 2026, at 12.44 pm. TGSPDCL said the latest figure is the highest demand recorded in the organisation’s history.
Within the Greater Hyderabad limits, demand reached 4,072 MW on September 28 at 6.42 pm, while electricity consumption stood at 82.89 Million Units (MU). The highest demand recorded in the GHMC area during the current financial year remains 4,782 MW, registered on May 22, 2026, at 3.33 pm. That day also saw the highest GHMC-area consumption, at 101.07 MU.
At the Telangana level, the State Load Dispatch Centre under Telangana Transmission Corporation Limited recorded a peak demand of 19,133 MW across the state on September 28 at 12.56 pm. Total electricity consumption on that day was 326.70 MU. The state’s highest demand during the current financial year remains 19,543 MW, recorded on September 9, 2026, at 10.41 am.
The figures place electricity distribution capacity alongside urban expansion as a central infrastructure concern. TGSPDCL said the growing demand is being met without interruption through advance planning, the augmentation of substation capacities, strengthening of the power network, and modernisation of transmission and distribution systems.
The demand is not limited to cities. The Telangana government is also maintaining uninterrupted supply for agricultural requirements in rural areas, including electricity needed for paddy cultivation and other crops. According to the company, special operational measures are being implemented to manage increasing consumption in the agriculture sector.
TGSPDCL said future electricity requirements are expected to be shaped by data centres, IT parks, industrial corridors, metro rail expansion, agriculture and rapid urbanisation. The state government, TRANSCO and the distribution companies are implementing plans to expand power infrastructure and increase network capacity, it said.
Jitesh V. Patil, chairman and managing director of TGSPDCL, said the company was meeting rising electricity requirements through “advance planning, network strengthening, and efficient system management”. He said the organisation’s objective was to provide “quality, reliable, and uninterrupted power supply” and that the power system was being further strengthened to meet future demand.
The latest peak makes network capacity, substation expansion and reliable supply important operational milestones as Telangana’s urban, industrial and agricultural electricity needs continue to grow. The next indicators will be whether the planned infrastructure augmentation keeps pace with further demand peaks across the TGSPDCL area and the state.
