Telangana’s power demand has reached a record 12,044 MW on the Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) network, as high temperatures drive electricity consumption across Hyderabad and the southern part of the state. The peak was recorded at 3:52 pm on Tuesday, according to the discom.
The latest demand surpassed TGSPDCL’s previous highest level for the current financial year, when 11,828 MW was recorded at 12:44 pm on September 11, 2026. Officials said the increase is being met without interruption through additional network capacity and system-management measures.
Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits, peak demand reached 4,072 MW at 6:42 pm on September 28. Electricity consumption in the area stood at 82.89 million units on that day. The highest demand recorded in the GHMC area during the current financial year remains 4,782 MW, recorded at 3:33 pm on May 22, 2026, when consumption also reached its financial-year high of 101.07 million units.
Demand has also remained elevated across Telangana. Data from the Telangana Transmission Corporation of Telangana State Load Dispatch Centre showed a state-wide peak of 19,133 MW at 12:56 pm on September 28, alongside total electricity consumption of 326.70 million units. The state’s highest demand during the current financial year was 19,543 MW, recorded at 10:41 am on September 9, 2026.
The demand increase is being driven not only by urban consumption but also by agricultural requirements in rural areas. Officials said the state government is ensuring uninterrupted supply for paddy cultivation and other crops, with special operating measures being implemented to manage rising agricultural demand.
TGSPDCL attributed the uninterrupted supply to advance planning, substation-capacity augmentation, network strengthening and modernisation of transmission and distribution systems. The measures are also intended to prepare the electricity network for future demand from data centres, information technology parks, industrial corridors, metro rail expansion, agriculture and rapid urbanisation.
“We are successfully meeting the growing electricity requirements through advance planning, network strengthening, and efficient system management,” TGSPDCL chairman and managing director Jitesh V Patil said. He added that the utility’s objective was to provide reliable and uninterrupted power while further strengthening the system to support future demand.
The state government, TRANSCO and the discom are continuing plans to expand power infrastructure and increase network capacity as electricity demand rises across Hyderabad and Telangana.
