Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered an inquiry into land parcels around former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse in Erravelli and said government land identified in the area would be recovered and allotted to eligible poor people, particularly Dalits.
Speaking in the Assembly on Wednesday, Revanth alleged that around 700 acres around the farmhouse were under the control of the KCR family, including 388 acres of government land. He said land parcels on which “purification” had been carried out would be used to provide rights to Dalits.
The chief minister also alleged that members of KCR’s family and relatives held 439 acres across nine districts, 24 mandals and 31 villages. According to figures he presented, 67 acres were held by KCR’s family and 123 acres by the family of a senior BRS leader. He also referred to holdings allegedly linked to other political families, including 79 acres, 30 acres, 101 acres and 37 acres.
Revanth said KCR and his wife were entitled to hold 27 acres under the applicable rules, while government figures indicated ownership of 67 acres. He alleged that members of another political family held 123 acres, including parcels measuring 49 acres, 17.5 acres, 46.3 acres and 9.3 acres in the names of different relatives.
The chief minister linked the alleged land accumulation to the Telangana movement and the Dharani land-records portal. Citing one alleged irregularity, he said 1,389 acres in survey number 318/A1 in Chinthalapalem mandal of Suryapet district had been entered in the name of a single person. Revanth said the land was brought back under government control after his government came to power and placed on the prohibited list.
He also alleged that land linked to the Satyam scam had been transferred into the names of relatives of a BRS leader and claimed that the farmhouse stood on this land. Revanth questioned how 11.5 acres of inam land parcels became part of a 50-acre farmhouse, and referred to a transaction in which land valued at Rs 50 crore was allegedly registered for Rs 1.53 crore before an election.
The announcement places the dispute within a wider examination of Telangana’s land records, ownership limits, prohibited properties and the management of government land. The chief minister also referred to another case involving 650 acres of government land while alleging large-scale diversion during the previous government.
Revanth said the government would constitute a special investigation team to examine what he described as a Rs 1 lakh crore land scam. He called the disclosures so far “Dharani part-1” and said details of “Dharani part-2 irregularities” would be revealed within a month. He further said alleged irregularities involving Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation land would be disclosed during the budget session.
The chief minister’s statements were allegations made in the Assembly. The report did not include a response from KCR, the BRS leadership or the other individuals and families named in the allegations. The proposed inquiry and SIT are expected to determine the ownership history and legal status of the disputed parcels.
