Telangana Digital Policing Gets Major Upgrade With New CID Tools

Telangana CID has launched a set of digital policing initiatives intended to standardise criminal investigations, improve survivor support and make police services more transparent and accessible to citizens. The initiatives were launched by Director-General of Police C V Anand in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The package includes five volumes of Standard Operating Procedures for investigating officers, a Citizen Feedback Centre, the Bharosa Software case-management platform, a public-facing CID website, the Justice Research Support System and a Mobile Face Search application.

Anand said the measures were aimed at modernising policing through technology while improving accountability, efficiency, service delivery and investigative outcomes. He said the initiatives would also equip police officers with better tools and standardised procedures.

The five SOP volumes cover bodily offences, property offences, crimes against women and children, special and local laws, and other offences. According to the DGP, the manuals are intended to strengthen investigative procedures, improve the quality of casework and increase the likelihood of securing convictions in criminal cases.

The Citizen Feedback Centre has been established to collect direct responses from people who have recently used police services. The feedback will cover services such as petitions, First Information Reports, e-Challan-related services and passport verification. The initiative creates a formal channel for assessing how citizens experience police processes after their cases or requests have been handled.

The Bharosa Software platform is designed to support survivors through the 35 Bharosa Centres in Telangana. The digital case-management system connects the centres through a single digital track covering each survivor’s journey from first contact to closure. The process includes registration, counselling, medical assistance, legal support and rehabilitation.

The Telangana CID website, available at cid.tspolice.gov.in, has also been opened to the public as part of the department’s digital transformation programme. The department said the public portal is intended to improve access to information and strengthen the visibility of CID services.

The Justice Research Support System will use automated data synchronisation and crime classification to support investigations, identify criminal networks and assist intelligence-led policing across the state, Anand said. The supplied announcement did not provide details on the system’s implementation structure, the agencies connected to it or the safeguards governing access to its data.

The Mobile Face Search application is an Android-based tool supported by a database containing more than 9.8 lakh photographs. It can deliver facial-matching results in approximately 15 seconds, according to the DGP. The application is intended to assist field verification and help identify suspects, deceased persons, unidentified bodies and missing persons.

The initiatives place standardisation, feedback and digital case tracking alongside investigative tools. Their implementation will determine how consistently police stations and CID units use the new systems, while the department’s stated focus remains citizen-friendly policing, transparency and continuous improvement in public service delivery.
