The Tamil Nadu government has launched a special vegetable package offering 10 varieties for Rs 100 through selected cooperative outlets and mobile shops during the Diwali period.
Named the “Vetri Special Vegetable Package”, the initiative includes onion, tomato, brinjal, potato, carrot, beans, green chilli, lemon, coconut and ginger. The package will be available from November 5 to November 7, according to a report by Dinamalar.
The sale is being organised by the state Cooperative Department through 218 selected cooperative sales outlets across Tamil Nadu. In Chennai, four mobile vegetable shops are also scheduled to operate as part of the initiative.
Cooperation Minister Gandhiraj inaugurated the sale in Chennai on November 5. The report said residents showed interest in the scheme and purchased the 10-vegetable package at the fixed price of Rs 100.
The initiative places cooperative retail outlets and mobile vendors at the centre of a short-term festival-season distribution effort. However, the supplied report does not provide details on the quantity of each vegetable in the package, the locations of the 218 outlets, the operating routes of the mobile shops or the basis used to set the Rs 100 price.
The sale is scheduled to continue through November 7. Further information on outlet locations, stock availability and the operation of the mobile shops was not included in the report.
