Tamil Nadu Launches New Corporation for ₹200 Crore Infrastructure Projects

Tamil Nadu has launched the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure and Construction Corporation Limited, a new public sector company intended to execute construction and infrastructure projects valued at more than ₹200 crore across the state, according to a government order reported by Dinamalar.

The corporation has been created as Tamil Nadu seeks to accelerate infrastructure development, build high-quality public buildings and respond to rising urban growth and international industrial investment. The state Public Works Department currently undertakes buildings and infrastructure facilities for various government departments.

According to the reported government order, the new company will focus on high-value projects that require faster execution and quality control. Its proposed work will include government construction as well as participation in construction tenders invited by private companies at the national and international levels.

The corporation is also expected to support the development of modern cities, industrial centres, technology parks, information technology cities and commercial business parks. The government has indicated that the organisation will not be limited to physical construction and will also provide project management consultancy for large developments, contemporary architectural design, environmental protection measures and quality-control services.

The new entity will operate as a government company while competing in the open market and participating directly in commercially awarded construction contracts to generate revenue. This model is intended to give the corporation an operating role beyond departmental execution, including the ability to seek work from private-sector clients.

The government order also provides for a survey and systematic accounting of unused land held by various government departments. The corporation may develop new commercial buildings on such land to generate revenue. The order does not specify individual sites, project locations or a timetable for these developments.

The corporation will begin with an investment of ₹15 lakh and has been allocated an initial corpus of ₹1 crore, according to the report. Any increase in capital, expansion of operations or creation of staff positions will be considered separately.

The company has been established on the model of a central government housing organisation, with its structure adapted to Tamil Nadu’s requirements. The immediate implementation details, including its leadership, staffing, tendering procedures and first project pipeline, were not provided in the reported account. The government order forms the basis for the corporation’s creation and its proposed mandate.
