Pune Unauthorised Construction Faces PMRDA Removal Deadline

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority has directed Uniklinger Private Limited to remove sheds allegedly built beyond its sanctioned plan at its industrial premises in Vadhu Budruk, Shirur taluka, within one month or face enforcement action.

The direction was issued by Smita Kalkutki, deputy director in PMRDA’s Town Planning Department, after authority officials inspected the company’s premises following correspondence from relevant offices. The inspection reportedly found sheet-metal sheds constructed beyond the approved layout.

PMRDA’s notice warned the company administration to remove the structures within a month. The authority said the alleged unauthorised construction could affect public interest and create the possibility of financial loss and loss of life. The notice did not state in the supplied report what specific enforcement action would follow if the company failed to comply.

The action followed protests by the Koregaon Bhima Vijay Ranstambh Seva Sangh, which has demanded that the company’s alleged unauthorised project be shut down and the disputed construction removed. The organisation held a protest outside the company on October 23 under the leadership of its founder-president, Sarjerao Waghmare. A second protest was held on October 30, during which demonstrators burned a symbolic effigy of the company administration.

Protesters alleged that the company had continued an illegal project, deceived the government and evaded taxes worth crores of rupees. They also demanded that criminal cases be registered against the company’s owner. These allegations were not independently established in the supplied report.

The company management has rejected the protesters’ allegations. It said all matters relating to the company were documented and that there was no unauthorised construction on its premises. The management also stated that chemical storage at the facility was maintained with the required permissions.

The company further said it had changed its security contractor four months ago and that the related legal process was under way. The supplied report does not provide details of the company’s sanctioned plan, the dimensions of the sheds, the permissions cited by the management or the amount of any alleged tax loss.

Waghmare said the organisation’s agitation would continue until the entire project was shut down and the PTEF plant and company office structures were demolished. PMRDA’s one-month deadline now places the next step with the company administration and the authority responsible for monitoring compliance with the sanctioned development plan.
