Suzlon Plans 10 GW Karnataka Push With Two Wind Parks

Suzlon Energy is targeting 10 GW of wind-energy business in Karnataka over the next five years and plans to develop two wind parks in Vijayapura and Raichur, along with a proposed blade manufacturing plant with 2 GW of annual capacity.

Dinesh Jagdale, President – Corporate Affairs and Retail Business at Suzlon, announced the plans during a panel discussion on renewable-energy prospects in Karnataka at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026. The company said the two wind parks would together accommodate 2.2 GW of projects over the next two to three years.

The proposed parks are intended to operate as “plug and play” sites for wind developers. Under this approach, Suzlon would undertake site preparation and associated project-development work, allowing developers to focus on setting up and commissioning their projects.

The parks will be located in Vijayapura, formerly known as Bijapur, and Raichur districts. Suzlon’s announcement did not specify the exact sites, investment value, project timelines beyond the stated two-to-three-year development period, or the number of turbines expected to be installed.

A key part of the plan is Suzlon’s Development Company, or DevCo, model. Through a separate company, Suzlon undertakes development-related activities and prepares the site before other wind developers establish their projects. The company said the model is intended to reduce the development burden and execution time for project developers.

Suzlon is also considering a blade manufacturing plant in Karnataka with the capacity to produce blades for wind turbines totalling 2 GW. The facility would be the company’s 17th blade manufacturing plant. Suzlon said its policy was to distribute blade production across locations instead of concentrating manufacturing in a small number of large facilities.

The proposed manufacturing investment would place production closer to the projects planned in the state, although the company has not announced the plant’s location, construction schedule, investment amount or employment potential. These details will be important for assessing the project’s industrial and regional-development impact.

The announcement comes as Karnataka remains a significant location for wind-energy development. By combining project-ready sites with manufacturing capacity, Suzlon is proposing an integrated model that links land and project preparation with equipment supply. The company’s statement, however, does not establish how many developers have committed to use the planned parks or how the projects will be connected to the electricity grid.

Jagdale said incentives for the sector were welcome and would support the development of wind energy. Suzlon did not identify specific incentives or provide details of any formal agreement with the Karnataka government in the statement reported from the summit.

The immediate next steps are expected to involve identifying the sites, completing project-development work in Vijayapura and Raichur, and finalising the location and implementation plan for the proposed blade manufacturing facility.
