SPPU Exams Cancelled Across 3 Districts Over Nashik Visit

Savitribai Phule Pune University has cancelled all examinations scheduled for October 31 across affiliated colleges in Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts because traffic disruption is expected in Nashik during the President’s visit and the flag-hoisting ceremony linked to the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2026-27.

The cancelled examinations will be conducted on November 11 at the same times originally fixed in the timetable, according to Dr Rajendra Talware, director of SPPU’s Examination and Evaluation Board. The decision covers examinations for various courses conducted through colleges affiliated with the university in the three districts.

The university took the decision after the Nashik Municipal Corporation commissioner informed it that traffic movement would be affected in Nashik and Trimbak during the President’s visit and the Simhastha Kumbh Mela-related flag-hoisting programme. The university said the expected traffic impact made it necessary to cancel the examinations scheduled for October 31.

The change affects students who were due to appear for examinations on Saturday. Since the decision was issued close to the examination date, colleges have been required to communicate the cancellation to students through social media and SMS. Some college principals cited the short notice as an operational difficulty, particularly because college offices generally close after 5 pm.

The university’s examination department issued the circular one day before the examinations were scheduled. The notice confirms that the examinations are not being discontinued, but moved to November 11, with students expected to follow the previously announced examination timings.

The decision highlights the administrative impact that large public events and high-security visits can have on routine institutional operations when traffic restrictions affect movement across multiple locations. In this case, although the reported disruption is centred on Nashik and Trimbak, the university applied the cancellation to examinations scheduled across its affiliated colleges in Pune, Ahilyanagar and Nashik.

Students will need to check the communication issued by their respective colleges and follow the university’s revised schedule for November 11. SPPU has said the examinations will be held at the pre-planned times on that date.
