Sabarmati–Varanasi Train Adds Daily Relief for Gujarat Passengers

A new daily Sabarmati–Varanasi superfast train will begin operations in November, giving passengers from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh an additional rail connection ahead of the Diwali and Chhath Puja travel period.

According to the report, Western Railway has decided to introduce regular services of Train No. 12205/12206 between Sabarmati and Varanasi. The Varanasi–Sabarmati service, Train No. 12206, will begin on November 2, while the Sabarmati–Varanasi service, Train No. 12205, will start on November 4.

Train No. 12205 will depart from Sabarmati at 5.20 am every day and reach Varanasi at 6.30 am the following day. In the opposite direction, Train No. 12206 will leave Varanasi at 5.30 pm daily and arrive at Sabarmati at 8.15 pm the next day.

The service will pass through and stop at a long list of stations across the three states and adjoining rail routes. These include Mahesana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Phalna, Marwar Junction, Beawar, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Gandhinagar Jaipur, Bandikui, Mandawar Mahuwa Road, Kherli, Nadbai, Bharatpur, Idgah Agra, Tundla, Govindpuri, Subedarganj and Mirzapur.

The listed route will provide connections not only between the two terminal cities but also for passengers travelling between intermediate stations in Gujarat and Rajasthan and destinations in Uttar Pradesh. For households making seasonal journeys to their hometowns, a daily service can offer another option when existing reserved services have limited availability.

The report said the train would include AC 2-Tier, AC 3-Tier, sleeper and general-class coaches. This mix gives the service capacity across multiple fare and travel preferences, although the report does not provide the total number of coaches or seats available on each trip.

The announcement comes during a period when passenger demand typically rises for Diwali and Chhath Puja travel. The report said the new service would provide relief to passengers travelling from Gujarat to Uttar Pradesh who were unable to obtain confirmed reservations. It also described the train as an additional daily travel option for passengers moving towards Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

For Train No. 12205, ticket bookings will begin on November 2 through passenger reservation system counters and the IRCTC website. The report did not state the fare structure, total journey distance or the detailed timetable for each intermediate stop.

The new service will therefore expand the available daily rail connectivity from Sabarmati towards Varanasi, with operations beginning in both directions before the Sabarmati-origin service starts on November 4.
