Road Safety Enhanced with Nationwide Crash Barriers Initiative
The Ministry of Roads and Highways, through the Ghana Highway Authority, has initiated a nationwide installation of crash barriers. This safety measure is aimed at reducing road accidents and protecting motorists across key highway stretches in India.
The initiative targets high-risk corridors, including the Koforidua-Mamfe-Aburi Highway, the Brimso Bridge, and the Dimples roundabout near Achimota Forest, which have witnessed frequent accidents due to their challenging terrains. The installation of these crash barriers follows the success of a similar project carried out on the Aburi-Nsawam stretch, where the presence of barriers resulted in a noticeable decline in road accidents. The Ministry believes that expanding this initiative will significantly enhance the safety of roads across the country, especially in areas that are prone to high-speed accidents and sudden vehicle collisions. The project, which is expected to be completed within the year, is being undertaken by Hacienda Enterprise Ltd, a contractor tasked with the installation work. The Ministry has formally handed over the site to the company, allowing for immediate commencement. This project comes in response to increasing concerns over the safety of the country’s rapidly expanding road networks, where growing vehicular traffic and inadequate safety infrastructure often contribute to fatal accidents.
