Residents Call for Immediate Fixes in Greater Noida Luksar

Residents of Luksar, a locality near Kasna in Greater Noida, continue to endure severe civic infrastructure issues, which have been worsening in recent months.

With the monsoon season fast approaching, concerns have risen over the dilapidated state of the area’s roads, drainage systems, sanitation, and streetlights, all of which contribute to an increasingly uninhabitable environment. Residents have now submitted a formal memorandum to the authorities, urging swift action to address these persistent challenges. Luksar, identified as part of Sector Kasna’s “6 per cent abadi land” in Greater Noida, has faced an acute lack of development, despite promises made during its initial establishment. The area’s infrastructure has remained woefully inadequate, and local residents are left grappling with the daily ramifications of broken drains, overflowing sewage, garbage accumulation, and the absence of streetlights, creating a hazardous and unsanitary living environment.

As the region inches closer to the onset of monsoon rains, the situation has only become more urgent. Locals fear the possibility of severe waterlogging, which could flood the already poorly-maintained roads, exacerbating existing issues. The absence of working drainage systems leads to stagnation of rainwater, a perfect breeding ground for waterborne diseases, especially in densely populated areas like Luksar. “We have witnessed large sums of money being collected for development work over the years, yet there has been no tangible improvement in the conditions of our area. Garbage piles up on main roads for days, and the drains remain clogged, leading to waterlogging after even light rainfall,” said a local resident, speaking on behalf of others in the community.

The situation is made worse by the unlit streets, where the absence of functioning streetlights has left residents feeling unsafe, especially after dark. Several local roads are in a state of disrepair, with large potholes and cracks making daily commuting a perilous task. For those walking through the area, the absence of basic infrastructure like proper drainage channels and sanitation facilities is a daily struggle. A significant concern that has emerged among the residents is the complete breakdown of the local sanitation system. According to them, the cleaning services are irregular, with sanitation workers failing to perform their duties consistently. The heaps of garbage, often left unattended for days, add to the health hazards already present in the area. “The quality of life in this area has deteriorated so much that we feel like we’re living in a neglected zone. Every season brings the same suffering,” added another local resident, echoing the widespread frustration.

In response to these growing concerns, a group of residents, led by local community representatives, submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), outlining the key issues and demanding urgent intervention. Among the issues highlighted were broken culverts in Block E, which have caused wastewater to overflow onto the streets, contributing further to the poor sanitation conditions. The memorandum also pointed to the widespread waterlogging issues and the inadequate waste management system in place. Several residents have pointed out that despite Luksar being listed as part of Greater Noida in official records, the locality has seen minimal development, with most of the promised infrastructure projects remaining incomplete or nonexistent. In a conversation with officials, locals expressed their concerns over the seemingly apathy displayed by the civic bodies when it came to addressing these issues.

“We are not asking for luxurious facilities, but basic amenities like clean roads, functional drainage, and effective sanitation. These are fundamental requirements for any urban area,” said a community leader from Luksar, who has been vocal about the region’s long-standing problems. The local residents believe that even minimal improvements would go a long way in enhancing their quality of life. The memorandum submitted by the residents to the SDM of Greater Noida, Ram Nain, has reportedly led to some initial action from the administration. In an official statement, SDM Nain assured the residents that their complaints would be addressed. He mentioned that sanitation work in the area had already commenced and that the relevant authorities would prioritise resolving the drainage and garbage management issues.

“We are aware of the issues faced by the residents of Luksar, and we are taking immediate steps to rectify the situation. Sanitation work has already started, and we will ensure that further improvements are made to the infrastructure,” SDM Nain said during a meeting with local representatives. However, residents remain skeptical about the speed and scale of the action, given the long-standing nature of the problems. They have called for more proactive measures, including the installation of proper drainage systems, better waste management practices, and the restoration of streetlights to ensure safety and cleanliness in the locality.

As Greater Noida continues to expand and develop into a prominent urban hub, the plight of areas like Luksar serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by underserved localities. The increasing urbanisation in the region has placed immense pressure on the existing infrastructure, with many smaller sectors and localities being left behind in terms of development and maintenance. The urgency of addressing Luksar’s infrastructure woes is compounded by the upcoming monsoon season, which could intensify the already precarious living conditions. If immediate steps are not taken, the locality could face significant flooding, further deteriorating the situation and making it even harder for residents to endure the hardships they already face.

Local residents are hopeful that the administration’s response will go beyond just promises and lead to real, impactful changes that improve the quality of life in Luksar. As the area struggles with inadequate infrastructure, it remains to be seen whether the authorities will follow through with their commitments and make Luksar a better place for its residents. The situation in Luksar also highlights the growing need for better planning and maintenance in fast-growing urban areas. As cities across India continue to expand, the importance of ensuring equitable development and sustainable infrastructure in all areas—especially underdeveloped zones—cannot be overstated.
