Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s greenfield data centre and Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute at Info Valley-II near Bhubaneswar on October 25, according to official sources. The integrated facility is intended to strengthen the central bank’s data management, disaster recovery and cybersecurity capabilities.
The announcement followed a preparatory meeting chaired by Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg to review arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit. The meeting also covered President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled visit to Odisha on October 28 and 29.
Spread across 18.55 acres, the RBI facility will function as a critical backup to the central bank’s primary data centre in Navi Mumbai. Its role is to support the uninterrupted functioning of key financial systems in the event of operational disruption, natural disasters or other risks affecting the primary facility.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by then RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on March 22, 2023. At the time, Das highlighted the expanding role of technology in central banking and the need to strengthen computing infrastructure and research capabilities in areas including enterprise computing, cybersecurity and digital technologies.
The Bhubaneswar site was selected for its strategic location away from high-risk border zones and seismically sensitive regions, according to the report. The facility has been designed with fault-tolerant architecture and multiple layers of redundancy, with the stated objective of improving business continuity for India’s financial infrastructure.
The campus will also house the Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute. The institute is intended to support research, capacity building and skill development in emerging technology domains, linking the physical resilience of RBI’s computing systems with the development of specialised institutional capabilities.
The project places Bhubaneswar within the RBI’s wider infrastructure network rather than treating the facility as a conventional technology campus. A geographically separated backup centre can reduce concentration risk in critical financial systems, although the supplied information does not specify the facility’s operational capacity, staffing levels, technology vendors or the precise timeline for full commissioning.
The inauguration is scheduled during the Prime Minister’s Odisha visit on October 25. President Murmu’s programme in the state will follow on October 28 and 29 and includes visits to Mayurbhanj district, a public gathering in Rairangpur, the foundation stone ceremony for an Indian Institute of Forest Management campus and the launch of civic projects and health, education and skill-development programmes.
