The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) has postponed the physical measurement and physical efficiency tests for assistant jailer recruitment in Ranchi after police authorities warned of heavy rainfall linked to Cyclone Arnab. The tests scheduled from October 28 to 31 at the JAP-1 Ground in Doranda will now be held on November 18, 19, 20 and 21 respectively.
The decision affects candidates assigned to Selection Board-01 under the Jharkhand Assistant Jailer Competitive Examination-2025, which has 45 vacancies. JSSC said the day-wise sequence would remain unchanged, meaning candidates scheduled for each original date will appear on the corresponding rescheduled date in November.
According to the commission’s notification issued on Wednesday, the postponement followed communications from the offices of the director general and inspector general of police regarding the likelihood of heavy rainfall in Ranchi under the influence of the cyclone. The physical tests require candidates to report to an outdoor ground, making weather and ground conditions important operational factors for the examination authorities.
More than 50,000 candidates are expected to appear for the physical tests, according to sources cited in the report. The scale of participation means that the change affects not only candidates but also the arrangements for reporting, verification and crowd management at the examination venue.
JSSC clarified that the revised schedule applies only to candidates assigned to Selection Board-01. Physical measurement and physical efficiency tests being conducted through the other three selection boards across Jharkhand will continue as scheduled, according to the commission’s notification.
Candidates appearing for the rescheduled tests will not be required to download fresh admit cards. JSSC said all other provisions contained in its notifications issued on October 16 and October 22 would remain unchanged. The commission has advised candidates to regularly monitor its official website for further updates related to the recruitment process.
The postponement illustrates the administrative impact of severe-weather warnings on large outdoor public exercises. In this case, the commission has retained the original sequence while moving the affected tests by three weeks, allowing the recruitment process to continue without changing the board allocation or other notified provisions. The revised tests for Selection Board-01 are scheduled to begin on November 18 and conclude on November 21.
