Rajendranagar Thud Triggers Panic as Police Rule Out Earthquake

A loud thud and reported tremors in Yerraboda and nearby areas under Rajendranagar police limits triggered panic on Tuesday morning, but police said their inspection found no evidence of a blast, earthquake or property damage linked to the sound.

Police said the sound was captured on CCTV at 9.14 am and teams reached the locality by 9.45 am. Officers, including teams from the police and CLUES units, examined the area for more than eight hours after residents reported hearing what they described as an unusually loud explosive sound.

Inspector S. Sreenivas said the teams found no evidence of an explosion and described the incident as a thud. Police also warned residents against circulating rumours about tremors or earthquakes on social media, saying such posts were creating panic in the locality.

Statements from residents indicated that they had not previously experienced a sound of similar intensity. CCTV footage reviewed during the inquiry showed a pet dog reacting to the noise, according to the police account.

SHO R. Venkatesh said tremors and earthquakes had been ruled out during the checks. Police also found a car damaged by a fallen tree during the search. Venkatesh said one possibility was that the sound had been caused by the tree falling on the parked vehicle, but the cause had not been conclusively established.

No property damage connected to a blast was reported, and officials did not identify any evidence of an explosive device or structural failure in the area. The police investigation remained focused on determining the source of the sound while officials urged residents to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed social media posts.
