Jaipur: In a bid to bolster environmental sustainability and combat climate change, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inaugurated the ‘Chief Minister’s Tree Plantation Campaign’ on World Environment Day, with the ambitious goal of planting 70 million saplings during the upcoming monsoon season.
The initiative underscores the state’s commitment to environmental stewardship and the preservation of Rajasthan’s rich natural heritage. During the launch, Chief Minister Sharma underscored the paramount importance of environmental conservation and stressed the need to coexist harmoniously with nature. He highlighted Rajasthan’s abundant natural resources and traditional water conservation practices, emphasizing the imperative for concerted efforts to safeguard the environment for future generations. As part of the campaign, the state government aims to distribute 30 million saplings to the public at subsidized rates, facilitating widespread community participation in tree planting efforts. Additionally, a further 40 million saplings will be planted across government-owned, communal, and grazing lands, amplifying the campaign’s impact and promoting afforestation on a larger scale.
In tandem with the tree plantation initiative, the state government is actively promoting pollution-free transportation by introducing 500 electric buses in major cities. This move aligns with broader sustainability goals and contributes to reducing carbon emissions in urban areas, fostering cleaner and greener transportation alternatives. Furthermore, Chief Minister Sharma unveiled the Air Quality Early Warning System for Jaipur, a crucial tool in monitoring and addressing air pollution levels in the city. This system will provide advanced warnings about deteriorating air quality, enabling timely interventions to mitigate environmental risks and safeguard public health.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to renewable energy, Chief Minister Sharma mentioned the PM Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme, which aims to install solar power plants on over 500,000 homes in Rajasthan. This initiative will provide eligible households with 300 units of free electricity each month, promoting sustainable energy use and reducing reliance on conventional power sources. The launch of the Chief Minister’s Tree Plantation Campaign exemplifies Rajasthan’s proactive approach towards environmental conservation and sustainable development. By fostering public participation, leveraging renewable energy, and investing in pollution-free transportation, the state is taking significant strides towards a greener and more resilient future.
