Rain disrupts traffic on Pune Katraj Kondhwa Road

Heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon brought traffic to a crawl along the Katraj-Kondhwa Road, one of Pune’s busiest arterial routes. Commuters faced long delays as large sections of the road, particularly near Mauli Nagar and Gokul Nagar, were waterlogged, severely hindering the flow of vehicles.

The downpour began around noon and continued steadily for several hours, leading to reduced visibility and slow-moving traffic across the stretch. The sudden accumulation of rainwater on low-lying patches left two-wheelers and smaller vehicles struggling to navigate through submerged sections. Local authorities have issued an advisory urging motorists to avoid the route if possible and to exercise extreme caution while driving in the affected areas. Civic officials are monitoring the situation, though no diversions had been announced at the time of reporting.

The disruption has raised concerns over Pune’s pre-monsoon preparedness, especially in areas known for inadequate drainage infrastructure. With the monsoon season approaching, residents are calling for quicker interventions to prevent recurring chaos on key roads during heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rain activity over the next few days, adding to the urgency for improved water management and traffic response mechanisms.

For now, commuters are advised to plan for longer travel times and follow updates from the Pune Traffic Police and municipal agencies.
