Pune traffic congestion in Dhayari and along the Sinhagad Road corridor remains unresolved despite repeated meetings, surveys and administrative assurances, according to residents and the Swachh and Sundar Dhayari Action Committee. Citizens have attributed the continuing disruption to incomplete roads, delayed bridges, encroachments, unauthorised parking and excavation work started without prior notice.
The committee has asked the Pune Municipal Corporation and traffic police to implement a time-bound action plan instead of issuing further assurances. Residents say the congestion is affecting students, office workers, patients, senior citizens and local businesses, while long delays are increasing fuel consumption and reducing the reliability of daily travel.
Committee coordinator and Dhayari resident Vineet Dharankar said meetings were held after public anger increased, followed by deadlines for completing works, but road conditions had changed little. The committee has demanded that previously announced measures be completed and that the administration publish the results of a comprehensive survey ordered for Dhayari, Narhe, Wadgaon, Nanded City and the Dandekar Bridge area.
The survey was reportedly ordered by Mayor Manjusha Nagpure on August 5 to examine traffic problems across these locations. The committee has sought the survey report, its recommendations and details of action taken on the findings. It has also asked for a definite date for opening the entire Suncity–Karvenagar Bridge route, whose approach roads remain incomplete and are expected to provide an alternative route to reduce pressure on the Rajaram Bridge.
Residents have additionally demanded a schedule for widening the Rajaram Bridge from its current width of about 18 metres to 30 metres. They have called for improved traffic management at Benkar Vasti, Pari Company Chowk and Ladli Chowk, as well as coordinated action between the civic administration and traffic police on the Dhayari Phata–Dhayari village route.
Dhayari resident Jayshree Deshpande said commuting to work, taking children to school and travelling during emergencies had become difficult. She attributed the worsening situation to delayed Development Plan roads, encroachments and inadequate traffic management. The committee has asked the administration to make inspection reports public and disclose action taken against unauthorised parking and encroachments.
The committee also raised concerns about the proposed Development Plan road between Savitri Garden and the Lagad Mala office, whose construction remains delayed. It said Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram had assured residents in August that the road would be completed within six months. The committee has sought a written progress report covering land acquisition, funding, required approvals and the status of a proposed bridge over the canal.
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, who oversees the western division and traffic branch, said traffic surveys would soon be conducted in Dhayari, Narhe, Wadgaon, Nanded City and the Dandekar Bridge area. Residents have also alleged that excavation undertaken without prior notice during peak hours has left commuters stuck in traffic for two to three hours.
The committee said congestion continues on and below the new Sinhagad Road flyover because of roadside vendors, unauthorised parking, encroachments and insufficient road width. It has called for immediate on-ground action and public disclosure of timelines for the pending surveys, road works, bridge connections and traffic-management measures.
