Central Railway will restrict platform ticket sales at Pune railway station from November 1 to 15 as authorities prepare for higher passenger traffic during the Diwali and Chhath Puja travel period. The temporary measure is intended to reduce overcrowding on platforms and support safer movement through the station.
The restriction will limit the number of visitors entering the platforms who are not travelling or do not need to accompany a passenger. Railway authorities expect demand for rail services to rise during the festive season, when many passengers travel to their hometowns and other destinations.
Platform tickets will continue to be issued to people accompanying passengers who need assistance. The exemptions cover those helping senior citizens, patients, children and passengers who are unable to read or write and therefore require support inside the station.
Women who cannot undertake their journey independently and need assistance will also remain eligible for platform tickets under the temporary arrangement. This provision is intended to allow passengers who genuinely require support to be accompanied by a family member or helper.
The restriction is part of Central Railway’s crowd-management measures for the 15-day period. Passengers and their relatives have been asked to plan station visits carefully and avoid entering the platforms unless necessary. Railway authorities have also advised travellers to cooperate with station staff while the restrictions remain in force.
Pune railway station is expected to experience increased footfall during the Diwali and Chhath travel season. Limiting non-essential access to platforms is aimed at keeping passenger movement orderly at a time when larger crowds can make entry, boarding and circulation more difficult.
The measure does not remove access for people accompanying passengers who need help. Instead, the stated arrangement distinguishes between essential assistance and visits that are not required for travel or passenger support. Those seeking to accompany eligible passengers will still be able to obtain platform tickets during the restriction period, according to the report.
The temporary curbs will remain in effect from November 1 through November 15. Railway authorities have asked passengers and accompanying relatives to follow staff instructions and use the station only when necessary during the festive rush.
