Pune: Train operations between Pune and Mumbai continue to be affected after a landslide in the Bhor Ghat section between Lonavala and Karjat, forcing Central Railway to divert 25 long-distance services through alternate routes. The temporary operational changes, expected to remain in place until July 17, highlight the growing vulnerability of critical transport corridors to extreme monsoon events and the need for resilient railway infrastructure.

Restoration teams are continuing debris clearance and track repair work in the ghat section after heavy rainfall triggered slope failure along one of India’s busiest rail corridors. Railway authorities have succeeded in restoring operations on the middle line, while the remaining two lines remain closed as engineering teams continue stabilisation and safety assessments. To prevent excessive congestion on the single operational track, several trains connecting Mumbai with southern, western and central India have been rerouted through alternative corridors, including Daund, Manmad, Igatpuri, Kalyan, Jalgaon, Paldhi and Surat. The diversions affect services travelling to destinations such as Chennai, Madurai, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Solapur, Porbandar and Ekta Nagar, resulting in longer journey times for passengers.
