Pune Power Outage Stretches Past 20 Hours at Raheja Sterling

Residents of Raheja Sterling in Mohammadwadi, Pune, reported being without electricity for more than 20 hours after a power outage began at around 9 pm on Wednesday, with repeated restoration assurances from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) failing to resolve the disruption by Thursday evening.

According to residents, they contacted the MSEDCL helpline and local officials several times after the supply failed. They said they were initially told that electricity would be restored within two hours, but the expected restoration time was repeatedly extended through the night.

Residents said that by around 2 am, they were informed that power would be restored the following day. However, electricity had reportedly not returned by Thursday evening. At around 5 pm, officials at the MSEDCL substation allegedly told residents that supply would be restored by midnight.

The changing timelines led to frustration and uncertainty within the residential society. Raj Singh, a Raheja Sterling resident, said residents had received repeated assurances but no clear explanation or reliable restoration schedule. “Every time, we are told that electricity will be restored within two hours, but the deadlines keep changing. There is no proper communication or accountability,” he said.

Another resident, Ashok Mehende, said the prolonged disruption had left residents struggling with access to basic electricity. He also questioned why a residential society was unable to receive a definite explanation and restoration timeline after repeated complaints.

Residents further alleged that helpline representatives had been unresponsive and had not provided clear information about the cause of the outage. The report does not establish the technical reason for the disruption, the number of affected consumers or whether the failure was linked to MSEDCL equipment, local distribution infrastructure or a fault within the society’s electrical system.

The incident highlights the dependence of housing societies on timely distribution-utility communication during outages. For residents, the immediate concern is not only restoration of supply but also access to accurate information about the fault, the repair process and the expected completion time.

Residents have demanded immediate intervention by MSEDCL, accountability from the officials responsible for handling the complaints and a permanent solution to prevent similar prolonged outages. The latest restoration assurance cited in the report was for midnight on Thursday, but the report does not confirm whether electricity was restored by that deadline.
